YOUTH OLYMPICS – SINGAPORE 2010!

The prestigious Youth Olympic Games will finally be held here in Sunny Singapore in 2010, and the Extreme Team from Singapore is jubilant to be sharing this good news with all of you! Thinking of visiting Singapore? Why not save the trip till the Youth Olympic Games in 2010! You will definitely not be disappointed as this is the first Olympic Games held here in Southeast Asia, and there will be a wide array of specially held activities just for this major and spectacular event!

21st of February 2008, just a few months ago the world stopped. Or rather I’d like to think that. It was the day many Singaporeans were waiting anxiously for, the extreme team included, as the officials of the YOG were announcing the winning bid as to which country would be hosting this exhilarating Olympic games which is only held once every two years! I still remember that day very clearly, spilling a cup of coffee on my new blouse and my manager kept the radio turned on throughout the day, eager to know the results (due to the numerous bets she placed on Singapore). I heard a screech, and first thought that someone fell on a heap of paper and possibly had a worse day then me, but then realized Singapore had won a tough fight against Moscow! The day ended with my manager elatedly treating us to dinner with her winnings! I guess you could say my day ended quite well since this news definitely changed the history of tiny Singapore to be a country so well respected and well liked.

Since that day, I believe Singapore has been working hard to make this once in a life time event a huge success! Besides various competitions to involve the participation of youths in Singapore like designing the YOG logo and such! There has also been much hard work involved, like the tedious preparation for this event which includes finding volunteers like the Extreme Team and other students from the various educational institutes in Singapore!

There are many competing sports involved in the Youth Olympic Games; Aquatics, Archery, Basketball, Boxing, BMX Cycling, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Sailing, Taekwondo, Tennis and even Female Wrestling! Believe me that there are still many more sports not include in this long list! Personally, I love Gymnastics most amongst all the various sports. I guess I appreciate it is because it involves art, which is what I love most. This sport incorporates grace, beauty and agility which is rare in the stereotypical world of “Sports”! I also love to be a spectator at a BMX Cycling event! The adrenaline felt by watching the sportsmen whom are usually cute too soaring in the air is just simply exhilarating and this sport is never boring as new tricks are always invented!

To end off, I shall leave you with this video which tells you more about this honored event Singapore will be hosting. The team hopes to see you there amongst the many tourists and the expected 3,200 athletes here in Singapore! So what are you waiting for? Hurry book your air tickets and be a part of this experience today!

HEY EVERYONE, IT'S ME AGAIN (PRISCILLA),
FROM THE EXTREME TEAM!!!

Today, I'm going to have some FUN IN ADVENTURE!

I have always wanted to experience adventure, something like in New Zealand. However, there seems to be nothing like that in Singapore or even Asia.

FORGET ABOUT THIS THOUGHT
! I was just like this untill I found ZORBING!

Oops! I think I got the wrong one. It's THIS!

Seeing this picture makes me imagine the fun of being like the HAMSTER above. I could imagine myself in a BIG BALL, rolling round and round, up and down slopes. THIS IS ZORBING and it not only exist in New Zealand, it is also in SINGAPORE!!!

I believe you get a rough idea of what is it. This activity not only lets you have loads of fun, you can also play it with friends, or make it into a team-building activity for your colleagues. What's more, you can even have a ZORBING PARTY, which was what I was thinking of for the coming Christmas and New Year! There is also a variety of packages and you can even choose to play the wet version.

Sounds fun? Like being a HAMSTER? Whether wet or dry, this exciting ZORBING activity, is the ultimate adventure RIGHT HERE IN SINGAPORE!

Book a date now or find out more at: http://www.zovbsg.com/

This isn't ENOUGH! I want more, more, MORE!

I WANT TO BE LIKE A BIRD, A PLANE, OR EVEN SUPERMAN (WOMAN)!

Give a shot at THE ULTIMATE BUNGEE EXPERIENCE, at the GMAX, in Clarke Quay , SINGAPORE!!!

The GMAX, originated from New Zealand (again), is safe, fast and , THRILLING!

I always thought that Clarke Quay was a place to hang out with friends and shop around. Little did I know, that in this city-like place, there's such an ADVENTURE!
When I first saw GMAX, I was thrilled and desperately wanted to be UP IN THE SKY!!! Even though I did not do it in the end, (maybe because of a little fear of heights?) I could somehow feel the excitment of being up there. It's like being SUPERMAN, except for some screaming and yelling.

If you are game for heights and speed, love the feeling of your heart in your throat, or if YOU ARE AN ADVENTURER, then give shot with GMAX, THE ULTIMATE BUNGEE! If you really really (I mean really), then try GMAX AND GX5 EXTREME SWING all at one go, for the ULTIMATE ADVENTURE OF YOUR LIFETIME!

Have the guts, check out: http://www.gmax.co.nz/

So what are you waiting for? Get yours fellow adventurers and set off now to:

What will happen when you have 2 ultimate sports fanatics living under one roof, with numerous sports channels at the touch of their hands (remote control)?

Answer:

SPORTS FANATIC + SPORTS FANATIC + SPORTS CHANNELS = SPORTS, SPORTS, SPORTS, ALL YEAR LONG!

This situation solely happens in my family, with my sister SABRINA heading the SPORTS ADDICTION CLUB and the only member of the club is me - PRISCILLA of the EXTREME TEAM!

WELCOME ONCE AGAIN TO EXTREME SINGAPORE, AS THE EXTREME TEAM BRINGS YOU:

SATISFACTION INDULGENCE
FUFILLMENT

OF ALL YOUR SPORTING ADDICTION!!!!

Sports have been me and my sister’s NUMBER ONE entertainment. From FOOTBALL (Sabrina’s Chelsea VS Priscilla’s Manchester United), to TENNIS (Sabrina’s Djokovic VS Priscilla’s Nadal), we watch sports from all over the world.

However, to me, there’s one exception: SINGAPORE! Singapore is a tiny little red dot on the world map, and all along, I thought that there are not much exciting sporting events happening in Singapore. There’s no English Premier League like England or Roland Garros like France, not even cricket like India, BUT I WAS WRONG! (And I admit it)

In the year 2007, my sister was addicted to golf. She watched it all day long. One day, she was watching a golf tournament and I asked her if the golf course is in America. She stared at me and said: “THIS IS IN SINGAPORE, ITS IN SENTOSA!”

I was shocked. From then on, I realised there are many (YES, MANY) sports events right here in my HOMELAND, and what’s more fascinating to me is that these sport events are world-renowned.

Thanks goodness for my sister, or else I would have missed the exciting sports events in Singapore, this year (2008).

NOW, IT’S TIME! AS PRISCILLA OF THE EXTREME TEAM TAKE YOU ON MY JOURNEY OF SPORTS IN SINGAPORE OF THE YEAR 2008!

First up, the AVIVA SINGAPORE OPEN 2008 Super Series!

On the 12th of June, the world's second favourite sport of all time (right after my personal favourite: football), BADMINTON, entered Singapore with a storm and all the action was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

I have always enjoyed playing as well as watching badminton since my secondary school days. This year, I was able to see the true experts in badminton, as 250 top players from 25 different countries, including Singapore participated in this US$ 200,000 Super Series event.

Of course, I supported Singapore’s very own badminton experts but was also mesmerised by the skills of reigning Olympic champion, Danish Peter Gade and Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei, in the men's singles.

After 6 rounds of intense matches, on the 15th of June, the unstoppable Lee Chong Wei took home the crown of the 2008 AVIVA SINGAPORE OPEN! The action and skills left me wanting for more, but there’s no worry as the AVIVA SINGAPORE OPEN would return next year, 2009, right here in Sporting Singapore!

For more information of the event, check out: http://www.singaporebadmintonopen.sg/

Next up, the 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX!

When I heard the news of Singapore hosting a Formula 1 race, the first thing I checked was the price of the tickets. Sadly, I missed the experience of being at the first Singapore Grand Prix as tickets were sold out quickly, just like the speed of the F1 cars.

Even though I was unable to be there, I was still able to feel the exhilaration and adrenaline of the race on television.

The most anticipated event in Singapore this year, the first ever night race of the Formula 1 series, lasted over three days, starting 26th September and it was set in front of the gorgeous Singapore skyline.

On the 28th of September 2008, the 61 gruelling laps of the Singapore Grand Prix burst into action at the Marina Bay circuit. I was cheering on my favourite Felipe Massa as he led the pack for the first 30 laps. However, my rollercoaster ride went all the way down as Felipe Massa met with a series of accidents that caused him his lead.

From that moment, I thought my sister’s prediction, Lewis Hamilton would be the champion, but Lady Luck was not on his side too. In the end, it was former F1 world champion Fernando Alonso who brought home the title of the first champion of a night race, the 2008 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix!

And now it’s my turn to start preparing the race for the Singapore Grand Prix tickets to see my favourite Massa, next year, in the Singapore Grand Prix 2009! Hopefully, he will win with my support and yours too. So be sure to catch the first ever night race, right here in SINGAPORE!

Now, enjoy the latest of the BARCLAYS SINGAPORE OPEN 2008!

My sister’s favourite SINGAPORE sporting event, the Barclays Singapore Open 2008, was held at the Sentosa Golf Club, during 13th to 16th November.

Other than football and tennis, I have never seen my sister so engrossed in a sport, so I joined her in watching this prestigious event. This year, I was lucky to be able to see the big names in golf, such as Phil Mickelson from America, Ernie Elfs of South Africa, Padriag Harrington of Britain and Australia's Adam Scott also competed in this exciting tournament.

During the tournament, I was able to see not only the skills of players, but also the gorgeous scenery of the Sentosa Singapore Golf Club. During the tough contest between players, I was still trying to figure out the difference between a birdie and a boogie (and other rules). Eventually, I only understood it on the very last day of the competition, the finals.

Amidst the strong contest this year, it was India's Jeev Milkha Singh who triumphs over Major champions, Harrington and Mickelson, by just 1 stroke.

After watching the nail-biting golfing performance, I understood why my sister likes golf as much as football and tennis. Under her influence, I would certainly stay tune to the Barclays Singapore Open 2009, as the battle of the top class golfers battle their way to the title. Same goes to you, the one reading our blog now, make sure you catch big names in golf (hopefully Tiger Woods), right here in SINGAPORE!

For information regarding the Sentosa Golf Club, visit their offical website at: http://www.sentosagolf.com/

Finally, coming to an end in an action packed year of sports in Singapore, it’s the VOLVO OCEAN RACE 2008/2009!

The Volvo Ocean Race will be docking right here in Singapore, for Christmas and New Year, from 23rd December 2008 to 18 January 2009. The most challenging yacht race of all time, also known as the "Everest of Sailing", the Volvo Ocean Race 2008/2009 would travel around the world, visiting 5 oceans and 4 continents and 11 stopovers, with Singapore being the longest.

Our country would also be hosting the only in-port race of the event during the stopover, and that is not the end. There would also be a 10-day festival in the Race Village at Sentosa Cove, featuring many activites and entertainment for the competitors and the public. There would be non-stop fun and action for all!

I have already made a date with my sister to catch some life action on the rough seas. So be sure you do the same too, visit SINGAPORE as we bring you the "Life at the Extreme"!

All the information of the Volvo Ocean Race is avaliable at: http://www.volvooceanrace.org/

Its not about the end but about the journey. So start your first step and be part of the RACE in EXTREME SINGAPORE!

----------------------------------------------------

Right now, lets find out what its like to go the RACE as Stephanie of the EXTREME team share with us her experience in the NIKE HUMAN RACE 2008 =>

On 31.8.2008, the whole world stopped whatever they were doing, donned on their running shoes, and took part in the run for a cause of their choice with a million other friends and strangers in a worldwide 10k, like no other.

In Singapore, the race took place at 1615hours. After a hearty lunch heavily based on carbohydrates to fuel our energy, my Mum and I got a quick 40 winks before we left home, all psyched up for the run. It was my very first 10k run, and after all the training, it all led up to this day.

Daddy attempted to drive us, but the jam was simply ridiculous! Hopped out of the car halfway with mummy and walked to the esplanade. The crowd was MASSIVE. A sea of people in red everywhere, it felt both exhilarating and stimulating. There was a sense of belonging, all of us who were strangers, running with other 779,275 participants representing 142 countries for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the UN Refugee Agency or WWF.

I have to point out, the Human Race was definitely well-organized! There were several(not just one!) booths for baggage collection, where we can leave our belongings before we head to the starting line!

We were flagged off after what seemed to be eternity standing there and listening to my mum & her gym friend chit-chat. I felt like dying, throwing up, fainting, and dying all over again during the race. My mind was screaming at me to stop, my legs carried on reaching out forward, I was so tempted to oblige & start walking. Thank God I did not, because I would hate myself to the CORE if I did, especially nearing the finish line. The feeling of satisfaction and victory (though I didn't win anything) was overwhelming. My first 10k race! There is still many more to come.

The organizers did a wonderful job keeping us runners entertained. There were about 5 bands along the route, playing music and cheering us on. It was motivating! The race route was mostly around the Singapore River, starting point at the Esplanade, running through Shenton Way, Maxwell Road, Marine Station Road, the entire of Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, finally sprinting the last 100m.

We all finished the race at the Padang, where there was many post-race activities, such of free back and foot massage, many food and beverages booth, and not the forget the wide array of entertainment all the way into the night, with Boys Like Girls as the final act. The crowd was crazy and wild, screaming and shrieking, jumping up and down with our hands in the air. It was an unforgettable experience and definitely one of the best races I’ve ran in my life.

Up next, is the Standard Chartered Marathon ’08 held on 7th December ! We hope to see you there to challenge your limits and share the joyous journey of the RACE with us! For more details, please visit the official website: http://www.singaporemarathon.com/en/
